your message about Upper Austria

[edit]

hello Christian, thank you for your message. At the moment all articles pertaining to the Austrian states are featuring the state flag (Dienstfahne). There is no specific rule however if the state flag or the normal flag (Landesfahne) should be shown, theoretically both can be shown as is the case with the German states for example, see Hesse. To show the state flag in an encyclopedia is however legally not a problem. State flags are used by governments, however legally speaking in an encyclopedia they may be shown if it is for that purpose only, which is the case here on Wikipedia. See also Flag of Germany, Flag of Austria. The only solution I can offer you specifically for your concern is to modify the template for Austrian states, to include both the state flag and the civil flag, similar to the German states. Technically this should be very easy to do. feel free to ask if you have any further questions. Gryffindor 14:43, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How to pronounce Surtsey

[edit]

Hi :) I didn't find any english words that have a 'u' that is pronounced the same as the 'u' in Surtsey. However, if you know French, it's quite similar to the 'eu' in 'bleu' (e. blue). It also sounds a bit like the 'i' in 'sir'. The 'r' is produced with the tounge vibrating near the teeth, which is probably quite hard for foreigners. It is a harch sound, a lot like the 'r' in Spanish. 'Ey' is like the 'ey' in Reykjavík. --Heida Maria 20:59, 17 July 2006 (UTC) P.S. It's funny that you asked because it so happens that my father went to Surtsey today (he's a plant ecologist, and is studying the development of the ecosystem on the island). --Heida Maria 21:01, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Breiðablik + politics

[edit]

Hi. The sports club is called Breiðablik, and is in Kópavogur. It is not called Breiðablik Kópavogur or any of the sort.

Here is a list of all Icelandic political parties, old and new: [1]

Thanks for your answer. I'll use that data to check and correct the german wikipedia-articles. Thanks a lot, I would have never found that article in the icelandic wikipedia. --Wirthi 13:38, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome to Portal:Iceland
Hello there. I'm glad to see your enthusiam with Portal:Iceland. Please feel free to participate, and to add content that already exists on the German Portal:Island. I'm sorry that I can't participate in the German portal as well, my German isn't good enough. :-) Best regards.--Húsönd 00:29, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I have already translated many articles from english to german, including Surtsey and Eldfell that have both the status of "Lesenswert" ("worth reading"). My english is generally not good enough to fluently translate longer texts from german to english so most of the translation I do is from english to german what is much easier for me. If there is any information in the german WP missing from the english WP, I'm happy to translate that. --Wirthi 12:46, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for joining. Do you have any suggestions for the project? Kingjeff 05:01, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

well, hmm .. I don't know _ANYTHING_ about projects on the en:wikipedia. I'm doing some work in the de:wikipedia and since I am Austrian I think I can provide some help in the project here; if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Since my knowledge about projects is very limited I don't think I will be a great help in building up this project though. I will provide any help, if you just tell me what to do ;-) --Wirthi 21:59, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Wirthi! I'd like to call your attention to the WikiProject Germany and the German-speaking Wikipedians' notice board. I hope their links, sub-projects and discussions are interesting and even helpful to you. If not, I hope that new ones will be.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
